Available Positions

MRCC Programmer/Climatologist

Primary Function: Under the guidance of Project Leads, provide computational programming and climatological data analysis support for product development and scientific investigations.

Duties & Responsibilities: Responsibilities consist of managing databases, creating figures and diagrams, performing statistical analyses, contributing to project reports and peer-reviewed articles and other tasks related to atmospheric science investigations and services.

Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in either an atmospheric or computer science discipline with at least 9 credits of atmospheric science-related coursework
Preferred: Master’s degree in atmospheric science or related discipline

Experience Required: Experience working with observational scientific data that utilized statistical and exploratory data analysis skills; development of online tools and/or resource that utilized observational scientific data
Preferred: At least two years of working with observational atmospheric data that utilized statistical and exploratory data analysis skills; development of online tools that utilize data access routines (e.g., APIs) and JSON; GRIB, and netCDF formats; experience with JavaScript libraries like HighCharts and Tablesorter.

Knowledge Required: Python or Perl programming languages; UNIX/LINUX operating systems; large datasets of point and/or gridded scientific data
Preferred: UNIX/LINUX shell scripting; knowledge of observational meteorological/climatological data; visualization packages such as NCL and GrADS; JSON data manipulation; statistical software such as R or Matlab

Proposed Start Date: May 22, 2017  Salary: $25/hour and 40 hours/week  Appointment Status: Academic hourly; non-benefits eligible  Application Procedures:
