The Illinois Groundwater Flow Model

The Illinois Groundwater Flow Modeling framework began development in Fall of 2015. The framework consists of one regional parent model that coversĀ  the northern half of Illinois and portions of Iowa, Indiana, and Wisconsin. This large model is necessary to study the regional impacts of withdrawals from the sandstone aquifer system. The model can also be refined to study more local impacts, such as groundwater-surface water interactions. The framework has been established such that all models will be updated as new information, such as annual withdrawals, are made available.

The Illinois Groundwater Flow Modeling framework will be documented in the Summer of 2017. This page will be updated at that point. Provisional results are provided below to demonstrate the capability and scale of the model.
