Kaskaskia River Basin

Regional water supply planning in the Kaskaskia River basin has focused on surface water available in the region, with particular interest on the two federal reservoirs, Lake Shelbyville and Lake Carlyle. Groundwater resources are limited within the region. The region consists of the following counties: Bond, Christian, Clay, Clinton, Coles, Cumberland, Douglas, Effingham, Fayette, Jasper, Marion, Montgomery, Moultrie, Randolph, Richland, Shelby, Washington, and Wayne, with portions of Macoupin, Madison, Monroe, and St. Clair counties.
