ISWS provides laboratory services that support water research, public health, environmental monitoring, and watershed studies. Our analytical capabilities help researchers, agency partners, and project collaborators generate reliable data on water quality, sediment composition, and chemical characteristics.
Laboratory Services for Water Research
Health and Environmental Applications Lab
The Health and Environmental Applications Laboratory (HEAL) conducts advanced chemical analyses to support research on groundwater quality, atmospheric deposition, and watershed health. Services include the measurement of metals, nutrients, and other water quality parameters. HEAL works with researchers, public-sector collaborators, and institutional partners.
While the lab no longer offers direct home water testing, private residents may refer to the Private Well Class and its Pledge to Test program for guidance on private well sampling and safety.
Sediment Materials Laboratory
The Sediment Materials Lab offers a range of sediment analyses used in studies of erosion, sediment transport, and aquatic system health. Methods include particle-size distribution and related analyses of sediment collected from water samples. The lab is available to university researchers, state and federal agencies, and other science-based partners engaged in water resource projects.
