General Information
Crops grow best in locations where the environmental conditions meet their growth requirements.
Soil pH, soil drainage, soil texture, air temperature, soil temperature, growing days, winter minimum
temperature, precipitation, and solar radiation (light) are environmental factors that affect crop growth
and help determine where plants will grow. In addition to discussing the effects of these
environmental requirements on plant growth, brief discussions are included on how genetic variability,
plant growth habit, a plants woodiness, the invasiveness of a species, poisonous crops, and plant
diseases affect plant growth. Brief discussions about the geographical classification of regions for
plant growth, and geographical distribution of plants, and their economic importance are also
presented.
