Quick Guide
To access crop data:
- Select from a map
- Identify an area of the state.
- Set the desired suitability level.
- Use the advanced search criteria
for 11 traits including 4 soil (soil texture, drainage, pH), 4 climate
(precipitation, temperature, growing days),
and 5 crop (weediness, woodiness, growth habit, use, and grass or
nongrass) to reduce the number of crops selected.
- Select a crop.

- Select from a list of Counties
- Select a County from an alphabetical listing.
- Set the desired suitability level.
- Select a crop.

- Select from a list of Crops
- Select from the entire list of crops, including those without overall maps.
- Crops can be sorted in alphabetical order by scientific name, common name and combined scientific and common name.
After a crop has been selected, information is displayed on individual
crop requirement pages. These pages provide a text
description of the plant’s environmental requirements, use, and geographic
origin. Overall maps are displayed for crops with complete information for all
seven component requirements. Darker shading identifies areas that are better
suited for a requirement. Available component suitability maps may be viewed
for all crops.
The overall suitability for a particular county and selected soil map
unit is displayed in crop pages located by using the “Select from Map” option.
Activating the navigation buttons located on the left side of your
browser accesses information about crop requirements and characteristics.
